The Faculty of Innovative Design and Technology (FRIT), formerly known as the School of Engineering under Kolej Ugama Sultan Zainal Abidin (KUSZA), was established in 2006 with a clear mission to offer applied and industry-driven academic programs while positioning itself as a preferred faculty in the fields of design, engineering, and technology. Since its inception, FRIT has remained committed to ensuring the quality, relevance, and strength of all its academic offerings to meet the nation’s growing demand for skilled manpower, especially as Malaysia advances towards becoming a high-income economy.

As part of Universiti Sultan Zainal Abidin (UniSZA), a Comprehensive University, the faculty continuously aligns its programs with national educational aspirations by producing holistic, entrepreneurial, and well-balanced graduates in accordance with the Malaysian Education Blueprint 2013–2025. Moving forward, our academic programs are being strengthened through accreditation processes with professional bodies such as the Malaysia Board of Technologists (MBOT), the Engineering Technology Accreditation Council (ETAC), and the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC). These professional recognitions provide significant added value to our students, enhancing their credibility, employability, and global mobility upon graduation.

I would like to express my sincere appreciation for the dedication and contributions of previous Deans and administrators, whose leadership has shaped FRIT into what it is today. Guided by the philosophy of Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI), my leadership will be anchored in the values of Passion, Sincerity, and Excellence in Performance. This includes fostering a renewed work culture that upholds strong ethical principles, professionalism, and shared responsibility toward institutional excellence.

To remain academically current and future-ready, FRIT actively engages with key industrial sectors to understand the rapidly evolving technological landscape driven by automation, digitalization, and advanced manufacturing. These insights help us anticipate the needs of new and emerging industries, ensuring that our graduates are equipped with the attributes, competencies, and future skills demanded by the market.
